Steven Brown

Steven Brown is a fourth generation Austinite, that has been advocating for the economic and social liberation of marginalized communities here in Austin since 2012. He is also a healthcare professional with degrees from Austin Community College, Huston-Tillotson University, and Texas State University. His unique experiences has prepared him to take on some of the toughs problems in our community, inside and outside of the Operating Rooms.

Stephen M. Settle

Stephen M. Settle, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a native Texan originally from Wellington. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and completed his general surgery internship and residency at St. Paul Medical Center/SWMS in Dallas. He completed his vascular surgery residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He has practiced in Austin since 1992.

Dr. Settle is board-certified in general and vascular surgery by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He specializes in all areas of endovascular and vascular surgery.

He is a member of the Society for Vascular Surgeons, Texas Surgical Society, Texas Medical Association and Travis County Medical Society. Dr. Settle has authored various articles and publications in his specialty.

Faraz Kerendi

Faraz Kerendi, M.D is originally from Los Angeles, California and earned his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. His general surgery residency and cardiac surgery fellowship were both completed at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Kerendi has practiced with Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons since 2009.

Dr. Kerendi is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.

His clinical areas of interest include aortic root surgery, minimally invasive valve surgery, transcatheter aortic valve replacement, endovascular treatment of aortic aneurysms, off-pump coronary artery bypass, and surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation. He currently serves as surgical director of the Heart Valve Clinic at Heart Hospital of Austin.

He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Heart Association, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery, European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Texas Medical Association and Travis County Medical Society. Dr. Kerendi has received numerous research and teaching awards and published multiple papers in the field of cardiothoracic surgery. Dr. Kerendi was recently listed as a Top Doctor in Austin Monthly’s January 2013 edition based on peer endorsements, experience, education, training, research, publishing, and awards. In addition, he has been named by his peers to the Super Doctors ® Rising Stars 2013 and 2014 list.

 

Daniel G. Berson

Daniel G. Berson D.O., is originally from Hillsdale, N.J.  and received his medical degree from Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida. Dr. Berson completed his internship and anesthesia residency at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida specializing in critical care and cardiac anesthesia. He has practiced with CardioVascular Anesthesia in Austin,Texas from 2005-2019. He has recently moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico to help develop the Structural Heart Program at the Heart Hospital of New Mexico. 

Dr. Berson is board certified in both anesthesia as well as peri-operative transesophageal echocardiography. His practice centers on complex cardiac and major vascular procedures. He was also Chief of Anesthesia and Director of Critical Care Medicine at The Heart Hospital of Austin. 

Currently, he actively does research and development for the future of 3D Transesophageal Echocardiography, is in collaboration with The University of Texas Computational Engineering Department on developing a simulation mitral valve modeling program, presents 3D Transesophageal Echocardiography courses throughout the country, and has given national and international lectures at The American Society of Echocardiography and The European Society of Echocardiography.  He will be presenting at this year's European Society of Cardiology. He also does research and education for opioid sparing pain relief and hemonectic coagulation treatment algorithms.
